Despite Georgia voters listing the economy as their top concern, Newsweek found that abortion matters in the Senate race, but not as people might expect.

“It's unconscionable that we would threaten to take away their surviving spouse's benefits should they choose to remarry," Senator Warnock told Newsweek.

As Mandela Barnes and Ron Johnson stand locked in a 48-49 Senate race, independents could decide the election — but only 33% of them voted in the last midterm.

Newsweek spoke to six sitting senators in the states with the tightest senate races to identify the most important issues facing their voters.

"I didn't hear the Republicans worry about the deficit when they provided a trillion dollars in tax breaks to the 1%, large corporations," Bernie Sanders said.

"When you make a promise you absolutely have to deliver and you have to deliver quickly," Ryan said of his abortion bill that delivers on his campaign promise.

"If a guy has 5,000 cows and a great credit line at the bank, that means the community he lives in is short about 50 farmers," a Wisconsin farmer told Newsweek.

"(This would) allow a Trump to put political people in those jobs," Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly of Virginia told Newsweek.

"The waiver is just," U.S. Army Col. Yevgeny Vindman told Newsweek, "given the impact on my career and retaliation I experienced from the Trump White House.”

“That has struck such a nerve clearly across the country," Ryan said, "patriots from all parties standing up and saying 'this is not who we are as a country.’”

"The last thing they need to be worried about is keeping a roof over the heads," Senator Raphael Warnock told Newsweek. "Sadly that's the case for too many.”

"It's time to usher in a new era of climate action—one that prioritizes our planet and our people," Congressman Ro Khanna, who voted "yes," told Newsweek.

The suspension dealt a fresh blow to Olivet, a beleaguered Bible college which has been ordered to shut down its New York state operations.

"To suggest that this was some sort of illegal raid by the FBI is not only ridiculous but dangerous, especially after what happened on Jan 6th.”

"Getting new forms of energy, feeding the grid, will ultimately reduce the price of electricity." Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona told Newsweek.

Republican Senators Grassley, Hawley and Graham criticized Chuck Schumer for breaking his promise to hold a tech bill vote by "early summer.”

"What is really needed is higher progressive taxation, including a wealth tax," Congressman Ro Khanna told Newsweek.

The multiple investigations that resulted from the 2018 call for help are complicating the Christian university's efforts to stay in business.

"It doesn't make sense that we should rely on folks like China and others for our own national security interests," Republican Senator Joni Ernst told Newsweek.
